Abstract

The poor population in DKI Jakarta increased 118.6 thousand people to 480.86 thousand people in March 2020. This number is equivalent to 4.53 percent of the total population in the capital, an increase of 1.11 percent compared to the conditions in September 2019. This poverty rate is the highest in in the last decade and even nearly matched the conditions in Jakarta 20 years ago (4.96 percent).

The addition of the poor in this period was due to a decrease in people's purchasing power which was influenced by the increase in prices for goods and services and loss of sources of income. Over the past six months, the price of goods and services has increased, especially the price of foodstuffs, which have increased by 3.58 percent. On the other hand, household expenditure fell, especially in the lowest 40 percent.
