Abstract

Jakarta deflation in May 2020 was recorded at -0.02 percent. Deflation is caused by falling prices, especially in the food, beverage and tobacco group. The deflation has brought inflation of the calendar year (year to date / ytd) by 1.12 percent and inflation on an annual basis (year on year / yoy) by 2.61 percent.

Although eight other groups experienced inflation, high deflation in the food, beverage and tobacco group was able to make deflation in general by May 2020.

Jakarta's inflation rate for the calendar year (January-May) is 1.12 percent, below the inflation rate in the same period in the previous year which reached 1.64 percent. Likewise, annual inflation (May 2020 against May 2019) was 2.61 percent, down significantly compared to the same period in the previous year which reached 3.50 percent.
